Summer job watch: Student job offers on the rise
Written by Precedent
Monday, 09 November 2009

The Toronto summer job recruitment process came to an end last week and the results are looking positive.

We asked the 17 firms that traditionally hire the most students to let us know how many students they’ve hired for summer 2010, and how those numbers compare to hires for summer 2009 (when the market tanked) and summer 2008 (when no one knew what was coming). Based on the numbers in so far, more jobs were awarded this year than last, but we aren’t yet back to the rates of the relatively carefree summer of ’08.

Thanks to all the firms for helping us assemble this info and congrats to the students who landed jobs!

NOTES:

^ = Blakes' 2010 numbers were impacted by the U.S. job market; normally, the firm sends several lawyers south for part of the summer. This year, only three will go, which means there's less room in the Toronto office for other summer hires.
* = Will be hiring first-year summer students
