In addition to a deluxe silent auction, golfers enjoyed the company of sports and television notables — including hockey greats Eric Lindros and Bryan Muir, Olympic Gold Medalist Marnie McBean , as well as Leo Stakos, star of Fish TV.

What: Irwin Law The Lunatic and the Lords book launch Where: Caversham Booksellers, 98 Harbord St. When: Thursday, June 10, 2010
Friends and peers surrounded the Honourable Richard D. Schneider at the launch of his book The Lunatic and the Lords last week.
The book is based on the drama-packed trial and perhaps more dramatic aftermath of Daniel M’Naughten, charged with the murder of Edward Drummond, secretary to British Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel. Upon a finding of not guilty by reason of insanity, the Queen was so outraged that she formed a committee in the House of Lords to review the case.
The result was the M’Naughten Rules, which continue to form the basis for insanity defences in England and most English-speaking jurisdictions to this day.

Founded in 1919, the WLAO is a not-for-profit organization focused on advancing the position of women in the legal profession. At the annual award dinner, its President’s Award was bestowed on Bonnie Tough, a leading civil law litigator, in recognition of her outstanding service within the profession and her leadership role in advancing the position of women lawyers.
WLAO also celebrated two female law students for their contributions to the legal field. Amy Slotek and Andree Taylor won the McCarthy Tetrault LLP/WLAO Community Contribution Award and the Aird & Berlis LLP/WLAO Advocacy Award, respectively.

What: Western Law’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Where: Fairmont Royal York When: April 29, 2010
For a school with a noted reputation in business law, what better way could there be to starting an anniversary celebration than to ring the bell opening the Toronto Stock Exchange? Western Law Dean Ian Holloway did just that to kick off the 50th anniversary of the law school's founding last Thursday.
Attended by Western President Amit Chakma, Ontario Attorney General Chris Bentley, students, alumni and friends, the gala truly was an extravagant celebration. Guests enjoyed time with peers at the lavish Royal York, and there was no end to delicious treats (the chocolate fountain and mashed potato bar made the top of my list).
The celebration, which was the largest law alumni gathering in Western University’s history, was a huge success. Check out some of the stylish partygoers in the slideshow above.

With a table full of mouth watering chocolates and wine standing by at the ready, what more could you ask for at an event? How about a mix of some of the most impressive and inspiring professional women in Toronto?
This annual event was a staunch reminder of the remarkable strides women have made in the legal realm, as well as in other professional fields. Rather than focusing on the delicious treats, women instead gathered throughout the room to share their stories and insights, leaving the younger of us with a bevy of female trailblazers to aspire to.
To see some of these amazing women, check out the slideshow above.

What: Pants Off for Prostate Cancer Where: Trevor Kitchen and Bar When: March 10, 2010
“This is a no pants zone!” read the sign as you entered one of the most unique charity events going in Toronto this year. And pants were indeed off at this party, causing any one who didn’t get into the fun to receive the same look the rest of us would have gotten if we had taken the brave step of leaving the event and venturing outdoors.
In addition to the great food, drinks and entertainment, this bold and playful fundraiser did a spectacular job of directing jaw-dropping attention and research funds to the very serious issue of prostate cancer.
Check out the fearless partygoers in the slideshow above.
